The Time Beneath Our Feet

The time beneath our feet is a poetic exploration of time and existence. Documenting the idea of presence – the quiet intimate act of being – and how eventually, everything becomes a memory. As both recorder and participant, I used time itself as a medium, showing the fleeting moments I experienced as I traced unfamiliar paths through the Cornish Countryside, playing with geographic time as I walked from A to B.

Each of the 16 unique black and white darkroom prints were tied to me as I re-walked these paths. Exposed to the natural light of each journey, they were momentarily transformed, each one manipulated by the specific time, location and conditions it encountered. Once returned to the darkroom, they were fixed in their final form, forever locked in their short existence.

This process speaks to the human condition; although existing side by side, we each experience time in uniquely personal ways. This project invites reflection on shaping our lives through small moments. Noticing them is an act of presence, allowing each of us to claim our narratives in time.
